My CD Release Party for “New Directions”

I can’t wait! My new CD “New Directions” is coming out on May 17th on Posi-Tone Records, and on May 20th I’ll be celebrating its release at Cornelia St. Cafe with my group the Travis Sullivan Quartet. This album is my first recording of my original music in over a decade (I got a little sidetracked with this tiny project of mine called the Bjorkestra) and I’m extremely excited to be leading a small group once again (there’s no place no like home!). Click here to make a reservation for the evening.  ($15 admission).

A little about the CD and the music we’ll be performing: The album consists of eight of my original compositions,  a version of Rodgers & Hart’s “Spring is Here,” and my arrangement of Tears for Fears “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.”  There’ll also be a download-only track available of Wayne Shorter’s “Toy Tune.”  For the recording I’m playing alto saxophone along with Mike Eckroth (piano), Marco Panascia (bass), and Brian Fishler (drums).  We recorded the album last year and we’ll be reuniting for this performance!

I’ve also been writing a whole bunch of new music after having a fairly transformative early 2011, musically speaking, so there’s going to be tons of new music in this concert!
