Hearth Summit 2025 Saxophone Improvisation at Omega Institute
During the Hearth Summit 2025 at the Omega Institute, I had the privilege of performing an alto saxophone improvisation with Tibetan bowls alongside the extraordinary Reggie Hubbard. This was one of the most memorable parts of my time at the Summit, where artists, musicians, and healers gathered for four inspiring days.
Our fully improvised performance took place in the Lake Theatre on the beautiful Omega campus. Reggie surrounded the room with the resonance of gongs and Tibetan bowls, while I joined on alto saxophone. Together we created a 20-minute meditation in sound that moved through three distinct phases:
-
Sound exploration: long saxophone harmonics against multiple gongs.
-
Abstract duet: Tibetan bowls and alto saxophone in dialogue.
-
Melodic resolution: a closing passage where melody and resonance merged into calm stillness.

Reflection
Sharing this music online through video excerpts has reminded me why I love improvisation. The performance only existed in that moment — shaped by the room, the audience, and our collaboration. But through video, I can share the essence of that experience more widely.
🙏 Huge thanks to Reggie Hubbard for his artistry, and to the Omega Institute and the Hearth Summit community for making this collaboration possible.
